GreenFaith Australia’s major project in 2009 – Walking Humbly: a journey to the Murray – will take place 26 to 29 November 2009 inclusive.
While the actual journey will take place then, GreenFaith Australia has no intention of making this a weekend when a mob of city blow-ins turn up on to the iconic Murray.  This is a year long project culminating in a journey to the Murray.GreenFaith Australia plans to engage with three very different communities within the Murray-Darling Basin in Victoria:  Castlemaine, one of the southernmost towns of the MDB; Shepparton, the centre of a renowned irrigation and fruit-growing area; and Barmah Forest, a unique piece of Australia landscape and a focal point for many indigenous people whose voice GreenFaith Australia hopes to emphasise.  During 2009, GreenFaith Australia aims to get to know these very different communities; hear their stories; listen to – and perhaps share some of – their experiences.
Currently, we are in the middle of a United Nations declared decade focussing on Water for Life.  GreenFaith Australia hopes to give emphasis to this as it engages with the life of diverse communities dependent on the water of the Murray-Darling River system.
